Course Overview
Students will work both individually and as a team to create digital works of music using bandlab, garageband, and capcut. They will learn to listen critically and identify how elements of music such as dynamics and form can communicate musical intent in various contexts. Through this process, they will gain an understanding and appreciation of music.
Mission Statement
Our classroom culture will be one of respect and kindness towards our peers, our staff, and our community. We will come prepared, and will stay engaged in all aspects of the digital music production process. We will always honor our materials and learning spaces. As a class, we will support and challenge each other, and hold ourselves accountable to giving our best effort.
Philosophy
Self-Expression and connection through music is central to the global human experience and therefore is integral to the education of every student. Education in the arts equips students with valuable life skills such as self- expression, self- reflection, application of constructive feedback, perseverance, cultural awareness, problem- solving, and sensitivity to aesthetic values. These are traits that will be highly valuable to students throughout all aspects of their lives whether or not they choose to pursue music in the future. Studying music simultaneously grows aptitude in analytical, structural, conceptual, and social/relational thinking. Furthermore, music combines elements from mathematics, science, history, language arts, and foreign language, into one subject. For these reasons, digital music is to be regarded with importance and studied with the same intention as any other academic subject.
